Born and raised in Saskatchewan, Stuart is a retired Air Force pilot.
After flying fighters at Comox from 1966 to 1969, he and his family lived in every province from Quebec west and of his 37 years total in the Air Force, he spent 10 years living abroad in England and the US on flying and staff roles.
He culminated his career as the Canadian Air Force Air Attaché to the United States stationed in Washington DC.
He and his wife Mavis, who is also an avid golfer, retired from there to Crown Isle in 2000.
